I teach a workshop called "Monoprint Collage" in which we explore gel plate printing techniques along with collage. For this spring's edition of Monoprint Collage, in Santa Fe, I will be including some deli paper transfer techniques. The video below shows just one of the fun ways you can use deli paper as a printing plate and transfer paper.
SUCH a fun way to experiment with gel plate techniques! Printing on envelopes is fun, not precious, and gives you the opportunity to send your art pieces out into the world. This video features (and was inspired by) the song "Checks and Love Letters", by Bernice Lewis. Lucie Duclos, in Victoria, BC, is the one opening the mail, gushing over the collage papers I sent.
Last week I was teaching Monoprint Collage at Northeast Art Workshops in Gloucester, MA. I had a great group, who created some fabulous work. Here is a sampling.
I just got back from teaching Gelatin Print Collage at North Country Studio Workshops, an event at which I have been a student the last two sessions. This workshop series happens every two years at Bennington College, which has absolutely awesome studio facilities.

A few of my fellow faculty members that might interest you are Lisa Pressman, who taught encaustic, Lisa Grey, mixed media, and Daniel Essig, book arts. It was an intense week! If you are interested in attending next time, in 2018, I suggest you get on NCSW's mailing list. Classes are limited in size, so you get an intimate workshop, cross pollination from all the other workshops, and evening slide talks from all the faculty. Plus really good food and a gorgeous setting!

I will be offering Gelatin Print Collage at Pacific Northwest Art School next year, May 21 and 22. We will be making our own gelatin plates as well as using the gelliarts plate. Just prior to that I'm offering "100 Drawings, Paintings, and Explorations", May 16 - 20.
THANKS to all of you who signed up for the online Monoprint Collage. It is full now - that was quick!! So, for those of you who would like an in-person intensive monoprint collage experience, I am teaching at North Country Studio Workshops in January. It is a five-day intensive using the Bennington College art studios, which are full of light and are spacious. The workshop is limited to twelve participants, and the studio are open 24 hours. It is a fabulous place to immerse yourself in art and meet lots of other artists (there are thirteen workshops going on simultaneously, so you mingle at meals and evening slide talks). I studies encaustic with Daniella Woolf at North Country in 2012, and drawing (ink on Yupo, actually) with Leonard Ragouzeos in 2014. The workshops happen every other year.

By popular request, I am offering Monoprint Collage online, beginning in November. It is a six week class in which we'll explore the possibilities of the GelliArts gel plate, and build images using print and collage. We'll cover basic gel plate techniques and then move quickly to projects that develop visual content using monoprint, collage, drawing, and painting in a fluid no-boundaries process.

The theme of the four-day Abstract Painting workshop was "Series as Process". This theme segued nicely into the two-day Monoprint Collage class. The technique naturally lends itself to series work.
I was
thinking that next year at PNWAS, the four-day workshop, starting on May 31, could be "Gel Plate Monoprint: Series as Starting Point", and the two-day might be a workshop on using Yupo with India ink and mixed media. Your thoughts?
