Fresh Paint Friday #3

Another episode of Fresh Paint Friday!  This piece was inspired by another of my 4"x4" Teeny Tiny Art pieces, and I was surprised at how much it actually looks like the original.  When I take inspiration from a finished piece, the new piece usually ends up quite different.  Here is the 4"x4":

And here is the video, with James Hill on the ukulele.  (I am DYING to take a ukulele lesson with him!)

And here is the final piece:

A Give-Away

A generous patron has donated one online class to a lucky winner!  She wished to remain anonymous, and I am so grateful to her for this act of kindness.  The winner will be eligible to take one online class in the current year.

Coming up on April 3 I have Extreme Composition.  Here are a few examples of student work from that class:

On May 15th, we begin Sketchbook Practice, which you can read about (and see videos) here.

To enter in the "drawing", simply comment on this post and tell me which course you would like to take.  If you have already signed up for Extreme Composition or Sketchbook Practice, just say so, and if you win, I can refund your PayPal payment.  I will do the drawing, at random, one week from today, on April 1.

A big THANK YOU for all the postcards that are still coming in!!!  This is awesome, and it is really boosting the volume of mail through our little PO.  Keep it up!

Fresh Paint Friday #2

Here is another episode of Fresh Paint Friday.  This piece is 9"x9", acrylic on printmaking paper.  See my Links Page for information on materials I use.

Fresh Paint #2

The music is called "Envisioning Spring in December", by Jared C. Balogh.  It sure feels like December here, in March!

Here is the piece in progress:

A Quickie on 4x4's

I was feeling a bit uninspired in the studio the other day, and started using my finger to apply thick white paint  to some of the 4"x4" pieces that had been in limbo.  Then I scribbled with graphite into the wet paint.  Futzed around with a few more things, then gave it up as an uninspired studio day and went back to the "office" (my laptop).  Came in this morning and LOOK!  The white paint CRACKLED!  I scanned these at high resolution so you can see the crackle.

The paint is Blick's Studio Acrylics, titanium white.
Graphite is Lyra, 9B; I use both water soluble and non-water soluble.
4"x4"x400 Project is described here.

Fresh Paint Friday

I decided to begin a series called "Fresh Paint Fridays", inspired by Laura Lein-Svencner, who does "Tack Down Tuesdays".  This will be an occasional Friday feature, not a regular one.  I create, from start to finish (which is not my ordinary modus operandi) a collage/painting on Thursday, and post it on Friday.  You see a video of the process, edited so that you aren't watching all afternoon.

For this one I took my inspiration from one of my 4"x4"s.  Hope you enjoy the video!
This is the piece at halftime.

More News Coverage

Here is an article in the Rutland Herald about our Postcard Project!  THANKS AGAIN to all of you who are sending such fabulous cards!  It is making an impact.  Keep 'em coming, and I will keep scanning and postingSharon Gorberg from MA is quoted in the article, as is Jo Murry from Australia, both of whom have been loyal blog readers.  Please visit their blogs and see their gorgeous work.  Jo Murry is NOT a guy.  I don't know why the reporter quoted her as "he".  Sorry Jo.

This from my Uncle Fred and Aunt Amelia in Portland, OR.  Thanks F&A!

4"x4" Update

Thanks to all of you who are participating in the 4"x4"x400 Project!  We've got some gorgeous and diverse images posted on the flickr group.  Thanks especially to those of you who have contributed to my roof project by purchasing my 4"x4" pieces.  Here is how the roof is going:
Some of the most obvious damage

The repair in progress

Found another gaping hole under the slate...
To make a contribution of $10 (greeting cards), $25 (4'x4' original) or $60 (painted slate) go here.

In May I have a solo show at the Canfield Library in Arlington, VT.  They have a lovely gallery space and a regular schedule of month-long solo shows.  Figuring that I'll have a few 4"x4" pieces to show, I am trying to decide how to frame/display them.  Here are a couple of options:
9"x9" with floating mat

9"x9" with regular mat
I also thought I'd mount a group of sixteen 4"x4" pieces each on a 4"x4" wood panel and show them in a grid format.  Here is approximately what that would look like:

Please weigh in on the framing options, or send me suggestions.  THANKS for visiting!

Buy Prints and Originals

I have just partnered with Fine Art America, a print-on-demand site, where I am now offering my work for sale as prints (choose your size, material, framing, etc.) and originals.  At this point I've posted my 4"x4" pieces, which you can buy as 8"x8" prints, or 10"x10" prints (they don't offer prints less than 8"x8").  You can buy the originals, your choice, for $42, or go to my 4x4x400 page and receive one as a "thank you gift" for a $25 donation to my roof project (I choose). Click on slide show to go to my page. I will be adding images and galleries periodically.
