Here is a little footage we made as an experiment. Jay edited it and sent it to me; then I edited it some more. I chose not to put any sound to it for now.

Painting On Glass
I had a video shoot yesterday with Jay Stearns of Accent Productions. He is making a short video about me for my web site. I find that being videotaped or photographed while I work really affects how I paint, and it's interesting to see the results. It sometimes sends me in new directions. Which raises all sorts of interesting questions for me about process... which I can ponder in a future post.

Visual Improvisation at AVA
Here are some pix from Visual Improvisation, a two-day workshop I taught at AVA Gallery last week.
The Painting to Music pieces are on 18"x24" cheap drawing paper. FUN!

Show At AVA Gallery
I was teaching at AVA the last two days, and although my show (one of four solo shows) there does not officially open until this evening (reception 5 - 7pm), I got a sneak preview. Here are a couple of shots; more "official" ones coming soon. The other work in the gallery - a sculptor, a painter, and a printmaker - is pretty stunning, and I'm looking forward to meeting the other artists!

Eye Candy from 100 Drawings on Cheap Paper
This is student work, from various lessons in the course. Just wanted to share, as I am blown away by it. This is the tip of the iceberg! I post student work anonymously. PLEASE DO NOT RE-POST, or it will look like it is my work. Thanks.

Beyond The Color Wheel - Online Class
I am offering Beyond The Color Wheel: Advanced Color Studies again in the fall, starting on November 2. It is a six-week course, pretty intensive, with lessons once per week. We go well beyond the color wheel and study value, saturation, and color interaction. If you feel you have the basics and want to take your understanding of color deeper, this course will take you there.
Still planning to offer a course in Black and White, starting early in 2017. Cheers!

Mounting on Wood Panel
I already did one video tutorial on mounting works on paper to wood panel, but that was quite a while ago, so I thought it time for an update. In this video I start by showing you how I mount the stripes, in sections, to the 12"x36" panels. Then I show you the next steps - cutting off the overhang, and painting the edges - on a smaller piece.
I always cut my substrate paper a quarter inch larger than the panel on which it is to be mounted so that there is a bit of overhang. The 12" stripes are cut to 12.25"; my 8"x8" pieces begin as 8.25"x8.25". If you leave more than a quarter inch, the cut-off can interfere with your composition. I use PVA glue for mounting. Some artists use acrylic gel medium.

Check This Out: My Work, BIG
As prints, anyway. I've never heard of the category "loft art", but ART.COM has some of my prints available only as very large pieces with this designation.
These are all printed on high quality canvas. Because of the size, some assembly is required. Much of my work is available as prints from Fine Art America, all in various sizes. Though it is certainly special to own original art, it is a commitment you are not always willing or able to make. Buying good quality prints is an affordable alternative, and for me it's fun to see my work in various materials and sizes. All of the above original works are done on paper, and at sizes much smaller than this "Loft Art". Fun!
This one is sold at 72"x72". THAT IS SIX FEET! |
If I were hanging this art, I would find a bigger wall. |
Ditto the above. This one and the one above are sold at 54"x72". |
