Janis Kirstein, of Kirstein Fine Art, has given me a feature on her blog. Check it out here.
She has included lots of information, loads of images, as well as my new video, which I posted a few weeks ago. Please visit this feature, and also check out Kirstein's work.

Pictures from Pacific Northwest Art School, Whidbey Island, WA
Here are some pix of student work done in my Gelatin Print Collage workshop at PNWAS over the weekend.
Except for the picture of me on Eby's Bluff, I ask that you not re-post the images above, as they are student work, shown anonymously. If you re-post, they will appear as if they are my work, and the credit is not mine. Enjoy!

Pictures from Stowe, Vermont
I did a one-day workshop at Helen Day Art Center in Stowe, Vermont, yesterday. Here are pictures of student work and students working. We had F U N !
Oh, and why not a little video?
This workshop was "Intuitive Painting", which is a sort of one-day version of my longer "Visual Improvisation" workshop. The group was AWESOME! Really fun, willing, excited, open to possibilities. Enjoy the pix!

Drawing The Line
Often in my art practice I circle back to fundamental elements: line, shape, color, for example. I occasionally bust out and go all over the map, but then come back to simple formats in my paintings too: grid, stripes, stacked shapes. Returning frequently to elements, basics, foundations, seems to be a recurring theme. Here is a little video on drawing lines. It can be a very meditative process, drawing lines, each one an individual expression. No fancy materials or techniques, all very accessible. For more on lines and color, see my posts on using crayons. Here's another one.
You will ask about materials: Caran d'Ache Neocolor II water soluble crayons; graphite crayons; pitt pens/markers; ordinary pencils; acrylic paint, Tulip Fabric Paint (available at JoAnn's and places like that), latex interior house paint, cheap drawing paper. Most of these are on my Favorite Materials Page. Try it; have fun!
This is white Tulip Fabric Paint on black painted cheap drawing paper. |

Work In Progress
I started these improvisational pieces while teaching at AVA the other week. Here are four that I consider finished; each 10"x10":
Color-Pattern-Line #1 |
Color-Pattern-Line #2 |
Color-Pattern-Line #3 |
Color-Pattern-Line #4 |
Nine more (of a dozen or so) works in progress in the same series. The four finished pieces are now available as prints in Fine Art America. |
