Making Postcards Video

Here is a little video tutorial demonstrating one way that I am making postcards.  You can use this method to make Teeny Tiny Art of any sort, postable or not.  I'll demonstrate this and other methods in a FREE POSTCARD WORKSHOP at Art and Soul in Kansas City on April 4.

Here is the 8"x12" piece that I created in the video:

And the four cards that resulted:
I will be sending these out on Monday.  Have fun with this!  You might try doing it in a group, and even collaborate on the cards.  Let me know how it goes, send me your own ideas on making postcards.   Download the Step-By-Step here.

    1. Exactly! When you really try to create VARIETY, so that each quarter is different, you often get a pretty interesting piece that you don't want to cut up. Also, just knowing that you are going to cut it up allows you to relax, not worry about "good composition". It allows you to be more present to the process.

  7. Oh Jane, this was fantastic. I love your techniques. I learned a few things today and can't wait to play. I think I need to go raid my husbands bits and pieces in his work area to make some interesting homemade stamps. Oh, I love the tissue paper idea, too. Guess I need to go back and view all your videos. Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Thanks for all your inspiration.

    1. I use a printmaking paper for the substrate, and cheap drawing paper for painting my collage papers. See the Links page on my web site for specifics and sources: http://janedaviesstudios.com/links Have fun!

  16. Hi Jane,

Sorry for my english, I'm not very good.
I love what you do, and I would like to know where you bought your stamp "target" that you see on your videos.
    Thank you in advance.

  17. Hi! Loved the video! I was wondering, if you mail the post cards, do you have to 'seal' the painting first? What kind of paper did you use?
    Thanks in advance!!

    1. Thanks. Since I'm using acrylic media, which is essentially plastic, I don' t see the need to seal them. If you were working in watercolor, you might want to use a spray varnish on them before mailing (see Golden's web site for copious information on varnishes).

  18. well composed & well printed, preferably with a unique twist or "punctum" that give them meaning beyond the image itself. And if you find all this AND they're in good condition, happy day!postcards printing
