Here are some pix from Visual Improvisation, a two-day workshop I taught at AVA Gallery last week.
The Painting to Music pieces are on 18"x24" cheap drawing paper. FUN!

Show At AVA Gallery
I was teaching at AVA the last two days, and although my show (one of four solo shows) there does not officially open until this evening (reception 5 - 7pm), I got a sneak preview. Here are a couple of shots; more "official" ones coming soon. The other work in the gallery - a sculptor, a painter, and a printmaker - is pretty stunning, and I'm looking forward to meeting the other artists!

New Stripe Piece
I did shoot video of making this piece (or maybe it is a part of a larger piece). Will post video when I get a chance to edit. Just wanted to share this for now:
I am really enjoying working with these textures, lines, and colors in the stripe format. This piece is available as a print from Fine Art America. It will be part of a larger piece in a solo exhibition at AVA Gallery in Lebanon, NH opening April 21.

Big Fat Art at AVA
Here is a little video and some pictures from my Big Fat Art classes at AVA during this last week. See a full description of Big Fat Art here or here. Though my Big Fat Art Weekend is full, I am offering a four-day Big Fat Art workshop at Pacific Northwest Art School in September.
I see that YouTube dropped the last frame of my video. Here it is:
Here are pictures from AVA last Friday and yesterday:

Big Fat Art Weekend
I've posted a few times about Big Fat Art, and thought it's time I offered a Big Fat Art workshop. First, here are a few pix of my latest Big Fat Art pieces, some in process, some finished.
What IS Big Fat Art anyway? Here is a description:
Read the full description or register for the workshop here.
Interested in a shorter Big Fat Art workshop? I'm teaching a one-day version at AVA Gallery in Lebanon, NH on March 7. A longer one? Come for a four-day Big Fat Art workshop at Pacific Northwest Art School in Coupeville, Washington on beautiful Whidbey Island, September 8 - 11, 2014.
Come on over to The Sketchbook Challenge blog to see a video of me working on the above Big Fat Art, with a little explanation of how it fits into this month's theme, Houses and Hideaways. This is part of a Sketchbook Challenge blog hop, so be sure to check out the other posts!

Big Fat Art is a state of mind rather than a
specific kind of art. It is all
about loosening up and getting past the thinking/evaluating zone and into the
creative spontaneous one, where you can be freely expressive. Ditch the inhibitions, relax, and have
fun playing with paint!

Workshop Photos
I just wanted to share some photos of the workshops I taught last Friday and Saturday.
On Friday I did Scribble Collage with a fabulous group of artist at AVA in Lebanon, NH. Familiar faces, as well as new acquaintances populated one of the gorgeous, light-filled classrooms, and the day went by so fast!

COLOR Online in June
As promised, here are a couple of images from my color workshop at Studio Place Arts a few weeks ago. My online version is "Unlocking the Secrets of Color", and consists of a six-lesson class with online discussion covering color relationships, vocabulary, and loads of exercises in using color. As a one-day live workshop I sometimes call it "Color Theory and Practice". We don't get through as much material in a single day, but students do come away with a framework for thinking about and using color.

I'm leaving early tomorrow morning to go teach Scribble Collage at AVA Gallery in Lebanon, NH. They have a great facility, beautiful classrooms full of light, and an awesome gallery with really interesting and inspiring shows. The class is pretty full so far. After class I'm driving to MA to see my parents for one overnight (and get in a Trader Joe's run), then teaching Fabric-Paper at Ink About It in Westford, MA. That class is full plus a waiting list. These both should be fun, as I will see old friends and meet new ones. Thanks for visiting the blog!

Scribble Collage at AVA
Last Friday I taught Scribble Collage at AVA Gallery and Art Center in Lebanon, NH. WOW! What a great venue! The classrooms are huge, with loads of table space and lots of light. The staff are super helpful. It was a really fun experience, and I hope to teach there more in the fall. The students were great too, all from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont. Here are a few photos:

I wish I had gotten a few pix of our finished collages; my apologies. They were stunning! If you are anywhere in New England, I recommend you take a look at AVA. In addition to classes, they have great shows in their galleries there, and load of inspiring art going on. Thanks for visiting!
