Gel Printed Envelopes

SUCH a fun way to experiment with gel plate techniques!  Printing on envelopes is fun, not precious, and gives you the opportunity to send your art pieces out into the world. This video features (and was inspired by) the song "Checks and Love Letters", by Bernice Lewis. Lucie Duclos, in Victoria, BC, is the one opening the mail, gushing over the collage papers I sent.

Here are some of the supplies I am using:

Have FUN!

  1. Fun project. How do you think the gel press plate compares to the gelli brand plate? I like the thick softer gelli plates but they don’t make a large square one. So I bought a speedball brand and find it too hard. Your thoughts?

    1. Still would like to hear your thoughts, Jane but... I did some research and found out that Gelli brand were made by Gel Press.
But supposedly, Gelli Plates are different now and are made by someone else. So, the old gelli plates are the same as Gel Press..already ordered the large square. Thanks for the vid!

    2. Really? I didn't know that Gelli was made by Gel Press, originally. I agree with you: I like the thickness of the GelliArts plates, but I love this 12x12 size AND the tighter radius of the rounded corners. I really don't like the corners on the gelliarts plates. In a recent class some of my students brought Speedball plates, and the paint stuck to them REALLY a lot, such that they were hard to clean. To me it seems that the Gel Press and GelliArts plates have identical surfaces.

    1. Check out Bernice Lewis's site (link in the post). I've been playing (ukulele) with her and another singer-songwriter. We're actually playing Checks and Loveletters at a gig this afternoon.

  5. I so appreciate seeing art videos like yours that have interesting music (checks & loveletters was perfect!) and simply show it being done. Much better than a lot of others out there that drone on and on, treat the viewer like dummies, try to be cutesy, only to end up with mediocre results.

  6. Love the envelopes! I have tried painting and stamping envelopes with acrylics before. They turn out so pretty.
