I have been making some sheets of fabric-paper for projects in a new book I am working on. This one I particularly liked. I made it by using a red swirl design fabric as the base, and layering
joss paper and tissue paper over that. The green paisley/floral element is a printed tissue paper. I added a few areas of metallic acrylic paints to give it sparkle. I can't wait to make something with it! I would love to hear from any of you who have experimented with fabric-paper.
Jane, I experiment with fabric paper - either wrapping paper overlaid over muslin , or muslin over paper bags coloured with acrylic. MY experiments go back over three years. I also use napkin tissue motifs over fabric, machine stitched to meld them together.
ReplyDeleteI love your piece shown here. Isn't it fascinating where our experiments lead us?

Love the colours in the piece you have done here! Beautiful!! I have had an experiment with fabric paper too... it was a lot of fun and I would like to try more of it. It looks gorgeous combining a mixture of paper and serviette in the layers. I look forward to doing more in the future!
ReplyDeleteHere is a link to the two instances of fabric paper on my blog:

I've made fabric paper using muslin, then old maps, torn pages from old books, then clear tissue over the top and acrylic here and there to add color. Sometimes I've even added pressed leaves.
ReplyDeleteI made some fabric paper by using muslin and gluing/gessoing tie-dyed tissue paper and pages from books to the fabric. Then I touched up with some Perfect Pearls metallic paint. Turned our really neat. Great for collages.
ReplyDeleteI've not heard of this technique before and want to try it.
